39 Months Between These Photos: My Postpartum Healing Journey

Bounce-back culture told me my body only needed 6 weeks to heal — and that this should have been attainable in 6 months.

But here’s the truth no one talks about:

Replenishing nutrients after childbirth can take 6–12 months.

It can take 12–18 months just to start feeling like yourself again.

And it can take up to 2 years for your hormones to fully balance out.

Yet in the middle of all that, we’re told to go back to work, hold it all together, and just “bounce back.”

I tried to do it all — baby, home, work, mental health, exercise, self-care.

And honestly… I was drowning.

I wasn’t eating enough.

I wasn’t sleeping enough.

I was pushing full speed ahead with nothing left in the tank.

Everything changed when I let go of the pressure and chose to support my body instead of fighting it.

I realized something important:

Both of these versions of me are beautiful.

Both of them are strong in different ways.

And both of them are loved equally.

She created life.

She sustained life.

She carried me through some of the hardest seasons of my life.

So I decided to show up for her.

No crazy diets.

No unrealistic timelines.

Just small, consistent steps.

A stroller walk.

A nourishing meal.

A hot shower instead of more scrolling.

One small choice at a time.

Because little steps compound into big changes.

I’m over three years postpartum, still breastfeeding, still learning, still growing. I’m not perfect, and I’m not finished — but I can finally see the progress.

And I’ve learned this:

Being strong will always matter more than the size of your jeans or the number on the scale.

If you’re in the thick of it right now, let this be your reminder:

It takes time, mama.

But you are worth the time.
